The D-Link DES-F1010P-FE is a specialized 10-port unmanaged hardware solution engineered principally for small-to-medium businesses (SMBs), edge commercial setups, and closed-circuit television (CCTV) deployments. Designed to optimize both infrastructure costs and device installation complexity, it integrates data transmission and power distribution into single Ethernet runs, discarding the need for localized AC power outlets. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Core Architecture and Port Configuration

The structural layout of the hardware comprises 10 discrete network interfaces split by deployment function: [1]

Eight Edge Downlink Ports: Operational at 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet speeds, these interfaces handle standard data while simultaneously delivering structural Power over Ethernet (PoE) utility. [1, 2]
Two Dedicated Uplink Ports: Configured as dual Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000 Mbps) interfaces. These channels isolate internal security or device camera traffic, providing non-blocking data backhaul directly into core switches, network video recorders (NVRs), or localized server routers without restricting edge-port bandwidth. [1, 2]

Power Capacity and Management

The foundational utility of this switch relies on its robust 120-Watt total PoE power budget . It is inherently compliant with dual industry standards: [1]

IEEE 802.3af (PoE): Supplies up to 15.4 Watts of safe power per downstream line.
IEEE 802.3at (PoE+): Pumps up to 30 Watts across dedicated lines for demanding devices. [1, 2, 3]

This hardware design provides flexible overhead. Installers can easily attach eight lower-draw legacy items or mix several high-performance PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) IP cameras, wireless network access points (APs), and VOIP systems simultaneously. [1, 2]

Hardware-Driven Intelligent Working Modes

The frontend panel houses physical manual DIP switches . This layout allows administrators to deploy immediate network optimizations manually, removing complex software interfaces entirely: [, 2, 3]

Extend Mode: Bypasses traditional 100-meter Ethernet limits, pushing power and data delivery over Cat5e or Cat6 lines up to 250 meters . The transmission speed caps at a steady 10 Mbps per extended port, which provides stable throughput for modern surveillance video feeds over high distances. [1, 2, 3]
VLAN Mode: Isolates downlink ports 1 through 8 directly from one another. Devices communicate exclusively via uplink pipelines, blocking lateral hardware movement, curbing data leaks, and eliminating IP broadcast storms. [, 2]
Quality of Service (QoS): Allocates specific traffic priorities across the backplane. It explicitly prioritizes real-time video payload processing over basic network data, preventing dropped frames or lag in security monitoring. [, 2]
PoE Watchdog (Intelligent PoE): Continually monitors downstream device responsiveness. If a connected IP device freezes or fails an internal loop check, the switch cycles the individual port’s power automatically to force a reboot. [, 2]

Physical Attributes and Environmental Durability

Built inside a rugged, compact metal chassis (186mm × 122mm × 33mm), the device is optimized for desktop usage or wall mounting. Its solid metal shell features a completely fanless architecture , guaranteeing totally silent operation and eliminating vulnerable moving parts that invite dust or premature mechanical failure. [1, 3]

To ensure network longevity in unpredictable outdoor deployments, D-Link integrates a 6 kV lightning surge protection circuit onto the ports. This protective layer absorbs volatile voltage spikes caused by lighting strikes or electrical instabilities, lowering maintenance overhead and preserving backend edge hardware investments. The device operates within a temperature window of 0°C to 40°C and copes with up to 90% non-condensing relative humidity environments.
